About Us
Indiana Farmers Union is a producer-driven
membership organization committed to enhancing
the quality of life for Hoosier family farmers, rural communities
and consumers through educational opportunities, cooperative endeavors
and legislative engagement.
Our primary goal is to sustain family farms and strengthen
rural Indiana. The key to this goal is Farmers Union’s grassroots
structure in which policy positions are initiated at the local level.
The policy process includes the presentation of resolutions by individuals,
followed by possible adoption of the resolutions at the local, state
and national levels. IFU advocates these policy positions at every
level of government.
IFU maintains that strong farm families are the basis
for thriving rural communities. Vibrant communities, in turn, are vital
to the health and economic well being of the entire economy.
Education – the base for all Farmers Union
activities
• Farmers Union educational endeavors range from cooperative education
to leadership development to issues training for its members and the general
public.
• Youth and adult educational programs include conferences tailored for
women, young adults and young families.
• Scholarships are available to assist both traditional and non-traditional
students in their pursuit of higher education.
Cooperation – farmers working together
• Farmers Union offers technical guidance and information for rural and
co-op development initiatives across the United States.
• On behalf of farmers and rural citizens, Farmers Union engages the support
of public and private entities to assist existing co-ops and to develop new specialty
marketing and value-added processing projects.
• Farmers Union’s www.e-cooperatives.com links
consumers to quality farm products online and provides e-commerce resources to
farmers and co-ops.
Legislation – your link to Congress and
State Legislature
• Farmers Union takes the organization’s grassroots-driven priorities
directly to the key policy decision-makers.
• Members can take their concerns directly to lawmakers in Washington D.C.
during NFU legislative fly-ins, which are organized several times a year. Or
be a strong voice at the Indiana Statehouse.
• IFU builds and leads coalitions of other like-minded groups.
